Acute Pain Day
proudly sponsored by mundipharma

Time: 8.30am - 5.00pm

The Acute Pain Day is rapidly becoming a popular and well-established satellite meeting to the APS ASM.   It is a ‘must attend’ for anyone interested in acute pain management.

The 2012 Acute Pain Day will explore the APS ASM theme of “Integrated Perspectives of Pain” from the acute pain perspective.  This time, the focus is squarely on the patient.  Optimising and individualising the care of each patient aiming to improve outcomes will be the overarching theme running through the sessions.

Once again, our speakers will be experts and leaders in their fields drawn from across the country and from a wide variety of backgrounds including law, staff training, clinical review and patient advocacy, as well as nursing, surgery and anaesthesia. The Day will finish with an Expert Panel debating “The Top 10 Questions”.

We warmly invite you to join us in Melbourne for lively discussions and opportunities to explore some hot topics in acute pain management.

Fundamentals of Pain Management
proudly sponsored by mundipharma

Time: 9.00am - 5.00pm

The Fundamentals of Pain Workshop is a multidisciplinary introduction to contemporary pain management.

This stimulating workshop is a series of three lectures and interactive case studies which cover the Neurobiology of Pain, Psychosocial Influences on Pain and Medications for Pain Relief.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners are proud to present an eminent panel of presenters including Diarmuid McCoy (Geelong Hospital, Pain Management Unit, VIC), Malcolm Johnson (Clinical Psychologist at the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Auckland), David Jones (Clinical Leader at the Pain Service, Dunedin Hospital and Dean, Faculty of Pain Medicine, ANZCA) and Stephen Leow (Chair, National Network of Pain Management, National Faculty of Specific Interests) at this stimulating session.

There are many new exciting developments in the pain medicine arena and these sessions serve to update participants in some of the latest developments in pain management.

This workshop is primarily targeted to provide general practitioners and other health practitioners with useful knowledge and skills that can be incorporated into their practice environment. We will enlighten providers on how they can play a pivotal role in managing the pain crisis throughout Australia, by providing quality education and demonstration of the latest techniques.
